Amaltas (Cassia fistula) is at its most striking when its long clusters of yellow flowers hang from the branches in full bloom. The flowers form cascading shapes, with each cluster made up of many small blooms at different stages.
This painting focuses on one of those flowering branches. The stem runs vertically through the composition while the yellow flowers gather and spread around it, creating a loose, flowing arrangement.
The individual flowers are small, but together they create a strong mass of colour. Look closely, and the cluster begins to break apart into separate flowers, buds, and slender stems, each occupying its own little space.
The yellow flowers also change subtly across the painting. Some are fully open and face outward, while others turn sideways or remain partially closed. These small differences give the flowering branch its movement and make the composition interesting to follow.
